Production of poultry and red meat next year is now forecast to be 91.026 billion pounds, 257 million pounds less than last month’s forecast and 1.6 percent below the slightly revised downward estimate of 92.542 billion pounds for 2011, according to USDA’s “World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates” report issued by the World Agricultural Outlook Board yesterday.

USDA reduced again its estimate for corn production this year as the average yield per acre was cut to 146.7 bushels per acre, 1.4 bushels less than last month’s estimate and the lowest corn yield since 2003-04, according to the “World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates” report issued yesterday by the World Agricultural Outlook Board.

The National Chicken Council, along with a diverse group of 30 other agricultural, environmental, grassroots, and business organizations sent a letter on Tuesday to top Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate urging them to reject efforts to continue or expand federal support for corn ethanol in any appropriations, tax, or debt reduction package.
