Intended U.S. placements of broiler pullet chicks for the hatchery supply flock for December 2012 were 6,630,000,  a 3-percent increase from the 6,438,000 pullet chicks placed in December 2011, according to the “Chickens and Eggs” report issued this week by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

U.S. total broiler slaughter for the week ending January 26 is estimated by USDA-AMS’s Poultry Market News Service to be 150,552,000 broilers, a 1-percent decrease from the same week a year earlier.
