Broiler parts exports this June were 283,395 metric tons valued at $346.92 million compared with 250,285 tons valued at $283.73 million in June 2011, a 13.2-percent increase in quantity and 22.3-percent increase in value.  Mexico, Russia, China, Angola, and Cuba topped the listing of largest markets in terms of quantity in June.  In terms of value, Mexico and Canada were the leading markets.

The International Poultry Council (IPC) in a press release this week pointed out that the current world grain shortage caused by prolonged drought in the United States, coupled with excessive rains in Northern Europe, is significantly affecting poultry meat production worldwide.

U.S. total broiler slaughter for the week ending August 18 is estimated by USDA-AMS’s Poultry Market News Service to be 157,689,000 broilers, a 1-percent decrease from the same week a year earlier.
