In February 2025, 784 million broiler-type chicks were hatched, down by one percent from the previous year. As of March 1, 2025, 749 million eggs were in incubators, up two percent from 2024. Leading breeders placed 8.22 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply, a slight increase from February 2024.

In February 2025, the United States produced 7.85 billion eggs, representing a nine percent decrease from the previous year. This production included 6.67 billion table eggs and 1.18 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.09 billion were broiler-type and 93.4 million were egg-type. The average number of layers in February 2025 was 355 million, a six percent drop from last year. Additionally, the egg production per 100 layers in February 2025 was 2,210 eggs, showing a three percent decline from February 2024.

As of March 1, 2025, the total number of layers in the United States reached 351 million, representing an eight percent decrease from the previous year. This total comprised 285 million layers producing table or market eggs, 61.6 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.93 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. The average rate of lay per day on March 1, 2025, was 79.2 eggs per 100 layers, which is a slight increase from March 1, 2024.
