CPI increased by 2.8 percent, DOL reports

According to the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the all-items index rose 2.8 percent over the past twelve months.

The all-items index increased by 2.8 percent for the twelve months ending in February, following a rise of three percent for the twelve months ending in January. The index, excluding food and energy, went up by 3.1 percent over the past year. Meanwhile, the energy index fell by 0.2 percent for the twelve months ending in February, and the food index rose by 2.6 percent during the same period.

The poultry index increased by 1.3 percent since February 2024, but it has decreased by 0.3 percent since January. Specifically, the price of chicken rose by 2.1 percent over the past year, although it fell by 0.1 percent from the previous month. Meanwhile, the price of eggs has surged by 58.8 percent compared to twelve months ago and has risen by 12.5 percent since January.
