President Trump this week announced that tariffs on Canada and Mexico will take effect on March 4, while also announcing that an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports will take effect next week.

Citing the flow of illegal drugs into the U.S., President Trump on Truth Social said, “We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH FOURTH will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled. China will likewise be charged an additional 10% Tariff on that date.”

President Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports earlier this year, delaying them by one month after concessions were made to increase security around the southern and northern borders. They are now set to take effect on March 4.

On China, President Trump last month announced an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports. With this week’s additional 10 percent increase, that brings the administration’s total increase of tariffs on Chinese imports to 20 percent.

President Trump also announced that the administration’s “reciprocal tariff” plan will take effect according to the timeline outlined in the White House’s February 13 memorandum, which directed his advisors to create a plan that will result in the U.S. matching tariff levels that other countries around the world charge it on imports.

“The April Second Reciprocal Tariff date will remain in full force and effect.”
