USDA’s February 2025 Chickens and Eggs report showed that the number of broiler-type chicks hatched in January 2025 increased by three percent from the prior year. As of February 1, 2025, the total number of eggs in incubators reached 745 million, representing a three percent increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, leading breeders placed 7.67 million broiler-type pullets in January, also up by three percent from January 2024.
In January 2025, U.S. egg production totaled 8.86 billion eggs, a four percent decline from the previous year. This included 7.57 billion table eggs and 1.30 billion hatching eggs (1.20 billion broiler-type and 100 million egg-type).
The average number of layers was 363 million, also down four percent, with a production rate of 2,440 eggs per 100 layers. By February 1, 2025, the total number of layers decreased to 357 million, comprising 292 million table egg layers, 61.9 million broiler-type hatching egg layers, and 3.92 million egg-type hatching egg layers. The average lay rate was 78.9 eggs per 100 layers, slightly up from the previous year.
