According to the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the all-items index rose three percent over the last twelve months.
In January, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.5 percent, following a 0.4 percent rise in December. Over the 12 months ending in January, the overall index rose by 3.0 percent, up from a 2.9 percent increase for the 12 months ending in December. The index for all items, excluding food and energy, increased by 3.3 percent over the past year. Additionally, the energy index saw a 1.0 percent increase for the 12-month period ending in January, while the food index rose by 2.5 percent compared to the previous year.
The poultry index experienced a 0.4 percent increase over the past year, but it decreased by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month. Specifically, the price of chicken rose by 0.9 percent since last year, while it fell by 0.5 percent since December. Fresh whole chicken saw a 0.5 percent increase over the year and a 0.2 percent rise for the month. In addition, the prices for fresh and frozen chicken parts increased by 0.8 percent over the year but decreased by one percent compared to December.
