The Congressional and Senate Chicken Caucus on Thursday joined together in the U.S. Capitol building for an update from speakers from USDA, NCC, and the U.S. Poultry and Egg Export Council addressing various trade issues and opportunities as well as the ongoing Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak. A Chick-fil-A lunch was also provided.

The lunch briefing featured speakers including USDA’s Associate Deputy Administrator of Veterinary Services, Dr. Alecia Naugle, DVM, NCC’s Senior Vice President of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Ashley Peterson, Ph.D., and USA Poultry & Egg Export Council President and CEO Greg Tyler.

Senate Chicken Caucus co-chair Chris Coons (D-DE) also addressed the audience, expressing the importance of the caucus for ensuring that Congressional staff are kept up-to-date on all issues related to the industry as well as giving a Farm Bill outlook and laying out some opportunities ahead for the industry in various trade negotiations and talks with foreign leaders.

More than 100 Congressional offices joined the briefing, which was held in the U.S. Capitol building.
