Vice President Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 Presidential Election, setting up a match with former President Donald Trump and his vice presidential pick, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
Currently the governor of Minnesota, Walz, 60, has worked as a geography teacher in Minnesota and taught for a year in China, served as a non-commissioned officer in the Army, and represented the 1st district of Minnesota in the House of Representatives for six terms.
He has served as Governor of Minnesota since 2019.
The Democratic National Convention is set to be held from August 19 to August 22 in Chicago, where delegates will ceremonially vote to nominate Vice President Harris and Governor Walz for President and Vice President, respectively. No other Democrats have announced an intention to seek the nomination in place of Harris and Walz.
That sets up the race for the 2024 Presidential Election between former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, on the Republican side and Harris and Walz on the Democrat side.
Harris and Trump are set to hold a debate hosted by ABC on September 10, and the election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
