USDA released its weekly Crop Progress report showing nearly 50 percent of all corn in the country has been planted and a little over a third of all soybeans have been planted.
From May 5th to May 12th, corn crops planted in the US increased 13 percent. The percentage of corn placed rose from 26 percent to 49 percent, meaning nearly half has been planted thus far. For comparison, the average percentage of planted corn between 2019 and 2023 at this time of year is 54 percent. North Carolina has planted 95 percent of its corn, Texas has planted 80 percent, and Tennessee has planted 73 percent.
In that same time span, soybean crops planted in the US increased 10 percent. The percentage of soybeans placed rose from 25 percent to 35 percent. The average percent planted between 2019 and 2023 is 34 percent. Mississippi has planted 79 percent of its soybean crops, Arkansas has planted 75 percent, and Louisiana has planted 69 percent.
