Each week, NCC will feature in a short spotlight column the official representative from each of our Allied Leader and Allied Member companies. This week’s Allied Leader Member Spotlight is CoBank’s Lead Animal Protein Economist and NCC representative Brian Earnest.

We asked Brian three questions:

In 2-3 sentences, describe what good or service your company provides to the broiler industry.

CoBank is a funding bank chartered by Congress uniquely positioned within the Farm Credit system with capacity to deploy capital both within the network of farm credit entities, and individual companies within specific sectors of the rural economy. CoBank is the largest provider of credit to rural America. Our mission is to support the financial needs of rural America through good times and bad.

Can you briefly describe your position and responsibilities within the company?

I serve as the lead animal protein economist for CoBank’s knowledge exchange division, a group made up of nine economists that are thought-leader liaisons to the industry sectors that we focus on.

What is your favorite chicken dish?

My wife makes the best chicken-rice casserole, but honorable mention goes to P.F. Chang’s chicken Pad Thai. I participated in an Ironman a couple of years ago, and one of my teammates suggested this as a night-before pre-race meal. I get pumped up every time I eat it.
