USDA’s August Chickens and Eggs report showed broiler hatch increased three percent from August 2022.
Total layers in the United States on August 1, 2023 totaled 385 million, up 3 percent from last year. The 385 million layers consisted of 316 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 65.0 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.61 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on August 1, 2023, averaged 78.8 eggs per 100 layers, down slightly from August 1, 2022.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2023 totaled 848 million, down 1 percent from July 2022. Eggs in incubators totaled 725 million on August 1, 2023, down slightly from a year ago.
Leading breeders placed 7.85 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during July 2023, up four percent from July 2022.
