The Consumer Price Index (CPI) released earlier this month showed a rise of 0.2 percent in July with a 3.2 percent increase of all items in the past year.
The food index rose 0.2 percent in July. The food at home index increased 0.3 percent over the month, after being unchanged in June. The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs rose 0.5 percent in July as the index for beef increased 2.4 percent. The food away from home index rose 0.2 percent in July.
The index for full service meals and the index for limited service meals both increased 0.2 percent over the month. The food at home index rose 3.6 percent over the last 12 months. The meats, poultry, fish, and eggs index declined 0.2 percent over the year. The index for food away from home rose 7.1 percent over the last year.
Chicken, in particular, fell 2.6 percent from the previous year and 1.1 percent from the previous month.
The energy index fell 12.5 percent over the past 12 months. The gasoline index decreased 19.9 percent over the last 12 months, while the natural gas index fell 13.7 percent, and the fuel oil index fell 26.5 percent over the span. In contrast, the index for electricity rose 3.0 percent over the last year.
