The Joint Industry Safety and Health Council this week at the National Safety Conference announced that 170 chicken and turkey facilities were recognized for exceptional safety performance.
The awards, given based on injury and illness statistics spanning from 2020 to 2023, are based on a facility’s implementation of innovative and effective employee safety and health programs.
In total, 23 facilities received the Award of Distinction – the highest award – which honors facilities for strong safety and health training that have incurred incident rates below the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) results by 75 percent or more.
Ninety-one facilities received the second level of recognition – the Award of Honor – which recognizes facilities that have incurred incident rates below BLS results by between 50 and 75 percent.
Fifty-six facilities received the third level of recognition – the Award of Merit – for incurring incident rates equal to or up to 50 percent below BLS results.
“Congratulations to these facilities!” Tyson Foods senior director of technical safety, regulatory, and compliance, Adrienne Allison said, who chairs the council. “The awards are representative of the advancements made by the industry regarding the safety and health of its workers.”
The Joint Industry Safety and Health Council consists of members of the National Chicken Council, U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, and National Turkey Federation.
