USDA this week announced the launch of a new research project known as the ‘Salmonella Grand Challenge.’
Housed within the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the project will bring together a team of 18 ARS scientists focused on eight research fields, along with six national program areas working on 12 projects at eight research labs around the U.S., according to USDA.
The team “will use machine learning-based modeling to integrate ongoing research projects with extensive industry feedback and collaboration with outside partners,” according to USDA. “This teamwork will help them find on-farm strategies to reduce the risk of Salmonella in final meat and poultry products.”
