House Republicans elected Rep. Kevin McCarthy as Speaker for the 118th Congress after a series of votes. Meanwhile, the House Republican Steering Committee has chosen its committee chairs.

The House Republican Steering Committee, composed of Republican leadership and regional whip representatives, met this week to finalize chairs of each committee in the 118th Congress. The full list is below:

House Armed Services Committee: Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL)

House Budget Committee: Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX)

House Education and the Workforce Committee: Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC)

House Energy and Commerce Committee: Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA)

House Financial Services Committee: Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC)

House Foreign Affairs Committee: Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX)

House Homeland Security Committee: Rep. Mark Green (R-TN)

House Intelligence Committee: Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH)

House Judiciary Committee: Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)

House Republicans this week also voted on a rules package to guide House proceedings during the 118th Congress, which included the formation of two new select subcommittees: the “Weaponization of the Federal Government” select subcommittee housed within the Judiciary Committee and chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and a “Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party” chaired by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI).
