Broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2022 totaled 859 million, up two percent from July 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 727 million on August 1, 2022, up two percent from a year ago, according to USDA’s August Chickens and Eggs report.
Leading breeders placed 7.54 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during July 2022, down 13 percent from July 2021.
Total layers in the United States on August 1, 2022, totaled 369 million, down four percent from last year. The 369 million layers consisted of 303 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 63 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.49 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on August 1, 2022, averaged 79.0 eggs per 100 layers, up two percent from August 1, 2021.

Total frozen poultry supplies on July 31, 2022, were up five percent from the previous month and up six percent from a year ago, according to USDA’s latest Cold Storage report. Total stocks of chicken were up six percent from the previous month and up 12 percent from last year.
