Poultry certified wholesome during June 2022 (ready-to-cook weight) totaled 4.43 billion pounds, down one percent from the amount certified in June 2021. The May 2022 revised certified total at 4.25 billion pounds, was up three percent from May 2021. The May revision represented an increase of 2.04 million pounds from last month’s preliminary pounds certified.
The preliminary total live weight of all federally inspected poultry during June 2022 was 5.84 billion pounds, down one percent from 5.91 billion pounds a year ago. Young chickens inspected totaled 5.20 billion pounds, down slightly from June 2021. Mature chickens, at 72.7 million pounds, were down one percent from the previous year.
Young chickens slaughtered during June 2022 averaged 6.43 pounds per bird, down one percent from June 2021. The average live weight of mature chickens was 6.86 pounds per bird, up two percent from a year ago.
June 2021 contained 22 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays. June 2022 contained 22 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.
