The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Jennifer L. Moffitt to serve as the USDA Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs by a voice vote.
Moffitt, who goes by Jenny, will now take the reins of the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
President Biden nominated her to the position in April. The Senate Agriculture Committee held Moffitt’s nomination hearing on July 15 and advanced her nomination to the Senate floor on July 26.
Moffitt has served as undersecretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), second highest position at CDFA. She also owns an organic walnut farm in California and has worked at the American Farmland Trust and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.
Additionally, USDA on Tuesday announced the addition of Dr. Marty Matlock as Senior Advisor for Food Systems Resiliency with the Marketing and Regulatory Programs. He previously was the founding Executive Director of the University of Arkansas Resiliency Center and professor in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department. He has served on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Science Advisory Committee for Agriculture as well as the USDA Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture. He received his Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering, Master of Science in Botany, and Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Oklahoma State University.
