Leading breeders placed 8.11 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during April 2021, down one percent from April 2020.
Egg-type chicks hatched during April 2021 totaled 59.9 million, down two percent from April 2020. Eggs in incubators totaled 53.3 million on May 1, 2021, up eight percent from a year ago. Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 266 thousand during April 2021, up nine percent from April 2020.
Total frozen poultry supplies on April 30, 2021 were down slightly from the previous month and down 20 percent from a year ago. Total stocks of chicken were down two percent from the previous month and down 22 percent from last year, according to USDA’s May Cold Storage report.
