The Agricultural Marketing Service seeks industry comment on the  draft specification for Frozen Chicken Parts, View Draft Specification. The proposed updates include:

  • Replace Material code Leg Quarters (100105) with the 2 current Leg Quarter Material Codes (110092 and 110094) and add UPC Codes.
  • Increase the allowable range of chicken without neck and giblets from 4.0 – 5.5 pounds to 3.0 – 6.0 pounds (except for cut-up chicken).
  • Freezing Section 570 to include ice glazing and in-line freezing system protocol which includes the 72-hour temperature requirements.
