One quarter of the value of U.S. poultry exports are now going to China, a sharp rise from a year ago, according to USA Poultry and Egg Export Council President Jim Sumner.

Now, 19 percent of U.S. global poultry exports and 25 percent of the value of U.S. poultry exports go to China.

Broiler export volume is up nine percent compared with the same period of 2019. Broiler export values increased by 18 percent. Between January and April 2020, the U.S. exported 99,875 tons of broiler products, including 53,000 tons in the month of April alone. Forty-four percent of those exports were chicken paws, Sumner noted, speaking at USAPEEC’s 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting.

Late last year China dropped a nearly five year ban on U.S. chicken imports.
