Poultry certified wholesome during March 2020 totaled 4.42 billion pounds, (ready-to-cook weight), up 12 percent from the amount certified in March 2019. The February 2020 revised certified total at 3.92 billion pounds, was up 4 percent from February 2019. The February revision represented an increase of 5.11 million pounds from last month’s preliminary pounds certified, according to USDA’s Poultry Slaughter report.

The preliminary total live weight of all federally inspected poultry during March 2020 was 5.84 billion pounds, up 12 percent from 5.21 billion pounds a year ago. Young chickens inspected totaled 5.11 billion pounds, up 13 percent from March 2019. Mature chickens, at 70.1 million pounds, were up 11 percent from the previous year.
