Broiler-type chicks hatched during January 2020 totaled 861 million, up 4 percent from January 2019. Eggs in incubators totaled 717 million on February 1, 2020, up 4 percent from a year ago.

Leading breeders placed 8.54 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during January 2019, up 14 percent from January 2019.

All layers in the United States on February 1, 2020 totaled 401 million, down slightly from last year. The 401 million layers consisted of 336 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.1 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.28 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on February 1, 2020, averaged 77.9 eggs per 100 layers, up 1 percent from February 1, 2019. View USDA’s Chickens and Eggs report.
