Pilgrim’s has published its 2018 Pilgrim’s Sustainability Report, and is the company’s first interactive, digital report, which transparently details Pilgrim’s recent achievements in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Mexico and Europe, and progress toward the company’s aggressive 2020 sustainability goals.

2018 marked a year of great accomplishments for our team, Pilgrim’s said. We reduced electricity use intensity and greenhouse gas use intensity by 5 percent and 4 percent, respectively, compared to 2017; achieved 90 percent or higher on all external third-party animal welfare audits; improved team member health and safety by reducing severe incidents 26 percent; paid $1.2 billion to our more than 5,400 family farm partners; and invested more than $255 million in sustainability-related projects. We are proud of our accomplishments this past year but remain committed to continuously improving our performance.

In keeping with our vision, “to become the best,” in 2017, we released 2020 sustainability goals for our Pilgrim’s U.S. business based on a 2015 benchmark year, and we are currently working to expand our approach of setting sustainability goals across global operations. Compared to 2015, we are on track to meet six out of eight of our 2020 goals, Pilgrims said.
