President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet in Osaka, Japan on Saturday on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit.

U.S. and Chinese officials have spoken over the phone in the days leading up to the two-day summit, which begins on Friday in Japan.  In addition, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence delayed giving a critical speech on China.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He spoke by phone on Monday this week.  Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin met with their Chinese counterparts in Osaka before the Trump and Xi meeting.

On Wednesday, President Trump said a trade deal with President Xi Jinping was possible this weekend, though he was prepared to impose tariffs on virtually all remaining Chinese imports, including on everyday products used by U.S. consumers, if the talks fail.
