President Trump announced today that he is nominating Heather Nauert as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.  Nauert has served as the State Department’s chief spokeswoman since April 2017. “Heather Nauert will be nominated,” Trump said today before departing the White House for an event in Kansas City.

Prior to joining the State Department, Nauert, a native of Illinois, was a reporter for “Fox & Friends,” as well as serving in several other postions at Fox News.  As a journalist, Nauert covered 9/11, the war in Iraq and four presidential elections.  Prior to joining Fox News, Nauert served as a correspondent for ABC news.

If confirmed by the Senate, Nauert would replace Nikki Haley, the current ambassador to the United Nations and the former governor of South Carolina.  Haley will step down as United Nations ambassador at the end of the year.
