The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) is hosting a Poultry Handling and Transportation “Train the Trainer” Workshop for poultry transporters and catch crews. The program is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday, December 7, at the University of Georgia Livestock Instructional Arena in Athens, Georgia. The workshop offers a combined certification and “Train the Trainer” program specifically for those individuals wishing to become poultry handling and transportation certified trainers.

The program provides certification training for poultry transporters and catch crews. It was developed by a team of poultry scientists and veterinarians from Pennsylvania State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and transportation industry professionals and is managed by USPOULTRY. The training gives companies and contract crews and their employees an understanding of poultry welfare, good management practices, biosecurity and emergency planning. Attendees will also develop tools to train non-English speaking (primarily Spanish) employees.

The workshop is limited to 40 people, and the cost is $150 for USPOULTRY members and $300 for non-members. Please submit your application, along with a letter of recommendation from your supervisor, at www.uspoultryhandling.org.

For hotel accommodations, the UGA Georgia Center or the Holiday Inn are recommended.
