Accomplished poultry industry veteran Dr. Greg Rosales has been honored with the Lasher-Bottorff Award by the American Association of Aviagen Pathologists (AAAP). He was recognized at the AAAP’s annual meeting, held July 13-17 in Denver, Colorado. The award is granted to those who have made significant contributions to poultry health programs in North America in the past decade.

A retired Vice President of Veterinary Services for Aviagen, Dr. Rosales continues to serve the industry as a consultant for Aviagen, as well as poultry production and pharmaceutical companies throughout the world. He is also a renowned author and editor for the Spanish language poultry trade publication AviNews (publication of parent company AgriNews), and is often asked to speak at industry events, such as the upcoming Latin American Poultry and Nutrition (LPN) Congress in Miami, Florida.

The Lasher-Bottorff award is not Dr. Rosales’s first industry acknowledgement. In 2012 the AAAP also presented him with a special service award for his contribution to veterinary and poultry organizations. And, due to “sustained and exemplary service” to the poultry and egg industry, in 2015 the US Poultry and Egg Association granted him the Lamplighter Award.

Growing up on a livestock and chicken farm in Mexico, Dr. Rosales developed an interest in food production and aimed to make a contribution to society by breeding and rearing poultry. He went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, as well as a Master of Science and PhD degree from the University of Georgia in the US. He has also been awarded diplomate status in the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV).

In 1991, he joined Ross Breeders (now Aviagen) to fulfill his interest in poultry breeding as a way to integrate the latest knowledge and research findings to bring about advancements in the breeding program.

Dr. Rosales worked together with Aviagen and a team of geneticists, veterinarians, laboratory technicians, and production managers to achieve common goals such as developing and implementing biosecurity and health monitoring programs, which led to major improvements in flock health and disease control and elimination.

“I feel extremely honored to accept the Lasher-Bottorff award and thank the AAAP for its consideration,” said Dr. Rosales. “I’ve been very fortunate to work with great companies and great people. During my tenure with Aviagen, I experienced first-hand the company’s commitment to the veterinary profession, to the advancement of poultry science, and to poultry health and welfare. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without the company’s support.”

“Dr. Rosales is an esteemed member of the veterinary profession and an acknowledged leader in the field of poultry medicine,” said Dr. Eric Jensen, Aviagen’s vice president of Veterinary Services. “The major health, welfare and biosecurity accomplishments of Dr. Rosales and his colleagues have brought great benefits to Aviagen customers and the industry as a whole.”
