A man was shot in the back on Monday afternoon at a Sanderson Farms plant in Collins, Mississippi.  The name of the injured man in the shooting has not been released, but it is reported that he remains in critical condition.

The Collins policy department received a call around 4:10 on Monday reporting an active shooter at the Sanderson Plant. The shooter was identified as 41-year-old Darren Jones.  Collins policy Chef Joey Ponder said the police believe the shooting occurred as a result of a personal dispute.  Both men worked at the plant.

Subsequently, Darren Jones killed himself during a three-hour standoff with police, authorities said. Officers found Jones’ vehicle about midnight in a wooded area north of Collins, Ponder said. Officers and Covington County deputies surrounded the vehicle with Jones inside. Eventually, Jones turned a gun on himself and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
