Broiler-type chicks hatched during June 2017 totaled 802 million, up 2 percent from June 2016. Eggs in incubators totaled 673 million on July 1, 2017, up 3 percent from a year ago. Leading breeders placed 8.59 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during June 2017, up 1 percent from June 2016, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Chicken and Eggs report.

Egg-type chicks hatched during June 2017 totaled 49.0 million, down 15 percent from June 2016. Eggs in incubators totaled 41.5 million on July 1, 2017, down 6 percent from a year ago. Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 334 thousand during June 2017, up 37 percent from June 2016.

Total frozen poultry supplies on June 30, 2017 were up 4 percent from the previous month and up 4 percent from a year ago. Total stocks of chicken were up 3 percent from the previous month but down 1 percent from last year. Total pounds of turkey in freezers were up 7 percent from last month and up 12 percent from June 30, 2016, according to NASS’ Cold Storage report.
