The National Chicken Council this week joined over one hundred organizations  in sending a letter to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA)  applauding them for agreeing to early discussions on a contract extension.

The letter said that the groups were “especially pleased that early discussions have resulted in a three-year contract extension offer, and we hope ILWU members will give the proposed offer their support when they consider it later this summer.”

The groups signing on the letter represent agribusinesses, farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, importers, exporters, distributors, other supply chain stakeholders, and transportation and logistics providers. “An early contract extension will provide the stability and predictability needed to enhance U.S. global competitiveness and will benefit many U.S. stakeholders,” the groups said.
