The Office of the Chief Scientist within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that it will hold a listening session: “Visioning of U.S. Agricultural Systems for Sustainable Production.”

The session will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is open to all stakeholders.  The agency has stressed that the session is for those interested in the “long-term health and viability” of U.S. Agriculture, and that short-term solutions, or those lasting less than 7 years, will not be included in the scope of the meeting.

The notice states that new agricultural technologies, research, and advances have created potential areas for improvement of the current agricultural system, and that coordination among diverse stakeholders will be necessary in order to make these improvements a reality.

Both oral and written comments will be welcome on topics including animal agriculture and aquaculture; fruit and vegetable cultivation; soil and landscape science; and others.  All stakeholders interested in attending the meeting must register no later than February 27 and all written comments from stakeholders will be due on March 9.  For more information on the listening session and registration, click here.
