Consumers are moving away from traditional comfort foods and moving towards healthy, locally sourced, easy to prepare meals according to a survey commissioned by Foster Farms.

According to the national survey, 73 percent of consumers have changed their opinions about the food they feel good about eating, including that 63 percent seek more meat and poultry raised without hormones or antibiotics. In addition to focusing on ingredients, the survey revealed cooking habits unique to millennials. Seventy-seven percent of millennials try new recipes at least once a month, with 50 percent of millennials seeking inspiration for recipes from social media. Compared to 54 percent of non-millennials, 61 percent of millennials rely on recipes, with 81 percent of consumers focusing on choosing healthier recipes. Chicken remains a popular staple for comfort meals, while half of survey respondents stated they are eating less red meat.
