FDA to Hold October 20 Public Meeting on FSMA Final Rule in Chicago

On September 25, 2015, in FDA, by Allison Phibbs

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  has announced that a public meeting will be held on October 20 to review the components of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) final rule.  The meeting will be held at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile and will provide an opportunity for FDA to discuss the agency’s comprehensive planning effort for the next phase of FSMA implementation. The initiatives of constructing new public health prevention measures and a risk-based industry accountability framework will be part of the discussion.

Those two initiatives are the primary objectives of FSMA and encompass the final rules released last week on Current Good Manufacturing Practice; Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food and Current Good Manufacturing Practice; and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Animal Food.  These rules outline the preventive control practices and response measures that human and animal food manufacturers must follow to be compliant with FSMA, as well as which businesses are considered exempt due to size, annual profit, structure, and other factors.

Free, online registration is required for the meeting, which will have both public attendance and webcast access options. Full details on the meeting are available here.
