China’s General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) rescinded a long-standing low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) related import suspension on poultry and poultry products from Virginia. The effective date was April 30, 2014. China’s suspension had been in place since August 2007. China is currently the third largest export market for U.S.-origin poultry and poultry products. Exports to China totaled $503.6 million in calendar year 2013. China’s reinstatement of Virginia as being eligible to export product is expected to further facilitate exports of U.S.-origin poultry and poultry products to China. China’s AQSIQ MOA notice of April 30, 2014 is available here.
