Chicken exports in November last year gained 1.5 percent in quantity but slipped 1.6 percent in value over a year earlier. Exports totaled 321,380 metric tons valued at $400.87 million in November 2013 compared with 316,564 tons valued at $407.30 million in November 2012. Within the overall chicken category, chicken parts increased 1.0 percent in quantity and were down -2.9 percent in value. Prepared chicken and sausages registered a 16.1-percent increase in quantity and a 15.9 percent gain in value. Whole chicken exports were up 11.6 percent in quantity and up 1.1 percent in value when November 2013 is compared with November 2012.

Mexico, in November 2013, was again the leading parts market with 48,009 metric tons valued at $49.82 million, a 2.9-percent decrease in tonnage and a 7.4-percent decrease in dollars. Russia, the second largest parts market, took 29,304 tons valued at $34.78 million, a 13.2-percent increase in quantity and a 21.5-percent increase in value. Hong Kong, the third largest parts destination in November last year, had a 78.8-percent increase in tonnage and a 102.2-percent decrease in value.
The top 15 parts markets had a 4.9-percent increases in tonnage and a 2.2-percent rise in value while “other countries” were off 7.6 percent in quantity and down 13.8 percent in value when November 2013 is compared with November 2012. Ten of the top 15 parts markets last November registered increases in quantity while 8 markets had decreases in value.

Chicken exports during the first 11 months of last year posted a 0.9 percent gain in quantity and a 1.9 percent rise in value. For January-November 2013, chicken exports totaled 3,442,951 metric tons valued at $4,447.55 million compared with 3,410,670 tons valued at $4,363.79 million during the same 11 months in 2012.
Within the overall chicken category, parts during January-November were 3,271,628 metric tons valued at $4,025.86 million compared with 3,273,162 tons valued at $4,010.71 million, no change in quantity and a 0.4-percent increase in value. The other two subcategories reported positive, more impressive results. Prepared chicken and sausages were 98,663 tons valued at $317.02 million, 17.0 percent more than the 84,358 tons during January-November 2012 and 13.9 percent above $278.40 million a year earlier. Whole chicken exports recorded strong growth with 72,660 tons valued at $104.67 million compared with 53,150 tons valued at $74.68 million, increases of 36.7 percent and 40.2 percent for quantity and value, respectively, when January-November 2013 is compared with January-November 2012.

Mexico was clearly the leading parts destination during January-November 2013 with 560,112 tons valued at $618.07 million, a 15.1-percent increase in quantity and a 16.4-percent increase in value. China was the second largest parts market during the first 11 months of last year when measured in tonnage while Russia was third largest. Canada is the second largest parts market when measured in value.
Eight of the top 15 parts markets had increases in both quantity and value during January-November 2013. Together, the 15 largest parts countries had a 1.6 percent increase in quantity and a 2.0 percent rise in value. On the other hand, “other countries” experienced a 3.7-percent decrease in quantity and a 3.3-percent decrease in value.
