Chicken exports in October this year increased 1.8 percent in quantity and gained 1.2 percent in value over a year earlier. Exports totaled 338,198 metric tons valued at $437.83 million this October compared with 332,378 tons valued at $432.67 million in October 2012. Within the overall chicken category, chicken parts increased 2.2 percent in quantity and were up 1.2 percent in value. Prepared chicken and sausages registered no change in quantity and a 5.9 percent gain in value. Whole chicken exports were off with quantity declining 16.2 percent from a year earlier and value decreasing 13.8 percent from October 2012.

Chicken exports during the first 10 months of this year posted a 0.9 percent gain in quantity and a 2.3 percent rise in value. For January-October of this year, chicken exports totaled 3,121,570 metric tons valued at $4,046.68 million compared with 3,094,106 tons valued at $3,956.49 million during the same 10 months a year earlier.
Within the overall chicken category, parts during January-October were 2,965,163 metric tons valued at $3,664.29 million compared with 2,969,636 tons valued at $3,638.30 million, a 0.2-percent decrease in quantity but a 0.7-percent increase in value. The other two subcategories reported positive, more impressive results. Prepared chicken and sausages were 89,273 tons valued at $285.40 million, 17.0 percent more than the 76,270 tons during January-October 2012 and 13.7 percent above $251.12 million a year earlier. Whole chicken exports recorded strong growth with 67,134 tons valued at $96.99 million so far this year compared with 48,200 tons valued at $67.07 million last year during the first ten months, increases of 39.3 percent and 44.6 percent for quantity and value, respectively.

Mexico was again in October the leading parts market with 50,526 metric tons valued at $54.48 million, a 0.7-percent increase in tonnage but a 1.1-percent decrease in dollars. Russia, the second largest parts market, took 24,787 tons valued at $29.17 million, a 0.6-percent increase in quantity but a 0.3-percent decrease in value. China, the third largest parts destination in October this year, had a 15.1-percent decrease in tonnage and a 12.4-percent decrease in value.
Chicken parts exports in October this year were 324,226 metric tons valued at $399.89 million compared with 317,372 tons valued at $395.16 million in October 2012, a 2.2-percent increase in quantity and a 1.2-percent increase in value.

Chicken parts exports during January-October 2013 totaled 2,965,163 metric tons valued at $3,664.29 million, 0.2 percent less than the 2,965,636 tons during the first ten months of last year and 0.7 percent above the $3,638.30 million during January-October 2012. Mexico was clearly the leading parts destination with 512,102 tons valued at $568.25 million, a 17.2-percent increase in quantity and a 19.1-percent increase in value. China was the second largest parts market during the first three-quarters of this year when measured in tonnage while Canada was second in terms of dollar value.
Eight of the top 15 parts markets had increases in both quantity and value during the first ten months of this year. Together, the 15 largest parts countries had a 2.2-percent increase in quantity and a 2.7-percent rise in value. On the other hand, “other countries” experienced a 5.3-percent decrease in quantity and a 4.0-percent decrease in value.
