Talks on the trade and investment agreement being negotiated between the United States and the European Union, called the Transatlantic  Trade and Investment Partnership, took place last week in Washington during which the United States and the European Union agreed to have compatible standards for food safety, nutrition, and nanotechnology.

Planned activities include providing access to each other’s scientific infrasture; exchange of scientific and technological information; exchange of experts; and support for the training of scientists, engineers, and technical experts.  The United States and the European Union hope to finalize negotiations by October 2014, with the next round of talks scheduled to take place in Brussels this October.
