Anne Alonzo has been appointed by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to be the new administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Service. Alonzo had been a vice president of global public policy for Kraft Foods. She led the company’s global corporate affairs work in the areas of sustainability, tariffs, tax and trade, and health and wellness and directed the global issues management team.

Alonzo previously served as senior vice president at the National Foreign Trade Council and as deputy assistant secretary at the Commerce Department. She began her career as environmental counsel at the Environmental Protection Agency and, as the first U.S. environmental attache, she was assigned to the U.S. embassy in Mexico City where she played a role in the North America Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Alonzo replaces David Shipman who is retiring from his career of government service at USDA.
