The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) yesterday officially notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the United States is requesting a WTO dispute settlement panel to address Indonesia’s very restrictive measures that are applied to its imports of animals and animal products and horticulture products. A panel is being sought because bilateral consultations did not prove productive. USTR requested consultations on January 10 and these consultations were conducted on February 21 and 22. It is expected it will take a few months to select and agree upon the panelists. Following seating of the panel, the process could take up to 12 months to reach a final determination.
