Chicken exports for December 2012 were 310,556 metric tons valued at $392.34 million compared with 291,503 tons valued at $357.70 million in December 2011, 6.5 percent more in quantity and 9.7 percent higher in value. All three subcategories within the chicken category experienced increases. Chicken parts were up 6.2 percent in quantity and rose 9.5 percent in value.  Prepared chicken and sausages exports were up 9.7 percent in quantity and had a 3.7 percent gain in value.  Whole chickens exports in December continued an uptick with an increase with of 20.5 percent in quantity and a 47.7 percent increase in value.

Chicken exports during January-December 2012 totaled 3,724,472 metric tons valued at $4,759.28 million compared with 3,567,821 tons valued at $4,271.87 million, a 4.4-percent increase in tonnage and an 11.4-percent increase in dollars.  Chicken parts gained 7.6 percent in quantity and increase 14.9 percent in value. Prepared chicken and sausages were up 9.8 percent in quantity and up 6.6 percent in value while whole chicken exports were off significantly with a 63.9 percent decrease in quantity and a 54.3 percent decrease in value when calendar year 2012 is compared with calendar year 2011.Chicken exports during January-December 2011 and January-December 2012 were as follows:

For December last year, the top four chicken parts markets experienced positive results for both quantity and values. Top market Mexico was up 11.8 percent in quantity (47,095 tons) and up 24.3 percent in value ($50.67 million), while China was the second largest parts market in December 2012 with the quantity, 28,823 tons, up 343.0 percent and the value, $32.06 million, up 297.9 percent over year earlier. Taiwan moved into third place with a 25.3 percent increase in tonnage (15,442 tons) valued at $17.62 million, a 27.3 percent increase. Angola was the fourth largest parts market  in December 2012 with an increase of 130.8 percent in quantity (13,483 tons) and a 149.8 percent increase in value ($17.05 million). Russia slipped out of the top ten destinations, experiencing a 68.9 percent decrease in quantity (8,285 tons) and a 66.3 percent decrease in value ($9.90 million).

Total poultry and eggs exports for 2012 were a record $5.744 billion, 5.2percent higher than the $5.460 billion in 2011. Poultry meat accounts for most of the category’s value with $5.012 billion last year, 11.5 percent above the $4.494 billion year earlier. Prepared poultry and sausages increased 10.3 percent while the values for live poultry, egg and egg products, and feathers and down decreased when 2012 is compared with 2011.
