Corn has received the most comprehensive analysis to date by an interdisciplinary team led by researchers at Cornell University and USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, according to a Science Daily report this week based on information provided by the National Science Foundation.
The team expects the achievement to speed up development of improved varieties of corn. Improvements in corn could benefit the international efforts to increase yields, expand areas where corn can be cultivated, and produce varieties better equipped to resist pests and disease, the report noted. The analysis of corn could help develop corn yields as a source of fuel and better manage crops in the face of changing climates, the researchers added.
