Chicken exports in May this year were 295,568 metric tons valued at $360.64 million compared with 279,206 tons valued at $309.40 million in May 2010, a 5.9-percent increase in quantity and a 16.6-percent increase in value. Broiler parts exports within the overall chicken category were 272,574 tons valued at $319.66 million this May, 4.8 percent above the 260,119 tons in May 2010 and 16.9 percent above the $273.42 million year earlier. Whole chicken exports increased significantly with a 32.0-percent rise in quantity and a 35.1 percent gain in value. Prepared chicken and sausages exports were off 0.4 percent in quantity but up 1.7 percent in value when this May is compared with May 2010.

Chicken exports during January-May 2011 totaled 1,364,405 metric tons valued at $1,600.32 million compared with 1,329,691 tons valued at $1,459.73 million during the first five months of last year, an increase of 2.6 percent in quantity and a 9.6-percent increase in value. Broiler parts so far this year were 1,261,733 tons valued at $1,410.34 million, a 1.7-percent increase in quantity and a 9.2-percent increase in value. Whole chicken exports experienced good gains with a 20.3-percent increase in quantity and a 24.5-percent increase in value. Prepared chicken and sausages exports were also up with increases of 5.3 percent and 6.6 percent, for quantity and value, respectively.

Top broiler parts markets in May 2011 were Hong Kong and Mexico. Parts exports to Hong Kong this May were 41,222 metric tons valued at $57.37 million, 1.2 percent less in quantity and 8.1 percent less in value when compared with May 2010. Exports of parts to Mexico were 34,710 tons valued at $33.34 million, off 0.9 percent in quantity but up 24.9 percent in value. China, the eighth largest parts market in May this year, had 8,478 tons valued at $10.85 million, a 108.4-percent increase in quantity and an 82.7-percent increase in value. Russia, the 12th largest parts market in May, had 7,227 tons valued at $8.66 million compared with essentially zero in May 2010.
