Although beef remains the most popular grilling meat for the Fourth of July holiday, chicken is closing the gap. Beef sales (by units sold) comprised 41 percent of the grilling meats in the two weeks before July 4, 2010, but were followed closely by poultry at 35 percent,  according to MyWebGrocer. In terms of regional sales, in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, chicken beat out beef for the number one grilling meat in unit sales the two weeks before the Fourth of July in 2010.

MyWebGrocer collected data from users of MyWebGrocer’s digital grocery platform between June 21 and July 4 in 2008, 2009, and 2010 to see what consumers are buying and to provide data to grocery businesses as they work to optimize supermarket shelf management and online sales. The company  is a leading U.S. provider of digital grocery solutions, and the provider of grocery ecommerce data to Nielsen.
