Although beef remains the most popular grilling meat for the Fourth of July holiday, chicken is closing the gap. Beef sales (by units sold) comprised 41 percent of the grilling meats in the two weeks before July 4, 2010, but were followed closely by poultry at 35 percent, according to MyWebGrocer. In terms of regional sales, in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, chicken beat out beef for the number one grilling meat in unit sales the two weeks before the Fourth of July in 2010.
