President Trump this week announced he is nominating Dennis Shea to be deputy U.S. trade representative in Geneva.   This position, which requires Senate confirmation, represents the United States at the World Trade Organization.

Shea is the Vice Chairman of the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission, a congressionally-appointed bipartisan panel that annually assesses the United States-China security, economic, and trade relationship, including China’s compliance with its WTO commitments. He has served as the Commission Chairman or Vice Chairman each year since 2012, and as member since 2007.

Shea has extensive background in law and public policy, and previously served as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Earlier in his career, he was deputy chief of staff and counsel to then-Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.  Shea received his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Shea is principal and founder of Shea Public Strategies in Alexandria, Virginia.
