Fowl parts exports for January-March 2014 were 3 percent above 2013 and 81 percent higher than 2004 for the comparable time period, according to the “International Egg and Poultry Review” this week from USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service’s Livestock, Poultry, and Grain Market News.

Of total U.S. January-March 2014 fowl parts exports, 15 percent was fresh.  The total  for January-March 2014 fresh fowl parts exports are 12 percent above 2013 and up 238 percent since 2004 for the comparable time.  The majority of exports over the last 10 years have gone to Mexico and Canada.  The total for January-March 2014 frozen fowl parts exports are 1 percent above 2013 and 67 percent higher than 2004.  The top 5 frozen fowl parts export destinations to date in 2014 have been Hong Kong, Angola, Russia, China, and Mexico.

Even though total U.S. January-March 2014 fresh whole fowl exports are 8 percent above 2013, they are 76 percent below 2010 and 25 percent below 2004 for the comparable time.  Frozen U.S. whole fowl January-March 2014 exports dropped 36 percent from 2013, but are 55 percent higher than 2010 and 60 percent below 2004 for the comparable time.

U.S. January-March fowl parts imports for 2014 are 1 percent lower than 2013, but have increased 250 percent since 2004 for the comparable time.

January-March 2014 fowl parts imports were 11 percent fresh and 89 percent were frozen.  Total fresh fowl parts imports for January-March 2014 were 55 percent below 2013, however, they have increased 40 percent since 2004.  Meanwhile, 2014 U.S. total January-March frozen fowl parts imports increased 16 percent over 2013 and 332 percent since 2004.  Canada has been the dominant source of U.S. fresh fowl parts imports over the last 10 years.  In 2004 the U.S. imported all of its frozen fowl cuts from Canada.  However, in 2008 the U.S. started importing frozen fowl cuts from Chile and in 2014 of the total January-March imports 43 percent came from Chile.  The report can be viewed here.
