OMP Foods announced this week it is negotiating to possibly buy a Batesville, Arkansas, chicken processing plant currently owned by Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation.  The company said it is currently conducting due diligence and is learning more about the facility.

OMP Foods is a family owned company and employs nearly 600. Its poultry-processing operation, Ozark Mountain Poultry, produces more than 1.5 million pounds of hand deboned, antibiotic-free poultry per week aimed at the restaurant industry and for use in its consumer brand, Forester Farmer’s Market.

In the statement, OMP Foods said representatives of the Independence County Economic Development Office contacted the company to discuss potential incentives to foster the deal. The Batesville plant currently operated by the Pilgrim’s Pride employs more than 450 workers.
